OCU vs. Mid-America Christian women's basketball preview

Stars look to continue dominant start to 2019-20

THE MATCHUP
• Oklahoma City University will complete the first half of the double-round robin Sooner Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon when they welcome the Mid-America Christian Evangels to Abe Lemons Arena
• The Stars have equaled their 17-0 start from the  2010-11 season. OCU is 17-0 for only the fourth time in program history (2001-02, '02-03, '10-11), and a win on Saturday would mark only the second time the Stars had started 18-0, along with the '02-03 season when they won their first 34 in a row
• Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students, and OCU students, faculty and staff get into all regular-season OCU home athletics events free with their ID
• When the Stars score 70 points, fans get a 2-for-1 combo coupon for Raising Cane's
 
ABOUT THE STARS
OCU won on Thursday night, 82-74 at USAO, but the Stars had to survive a late charge from the Drovers to take the win on the road
Brennyn Seagler - a 5-11 senior from Gruver, Texas -  and Abby Selzer, a 6-2 sophomore from Thomas, Okla., each posted double-doubles in the game for OCU. Seagler had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and she added two assists and a pair of blocked shots; while Selzer scored 15 and grabbed 10 boards. The double-double was the third for Seagler on the season, and Selzer notched her second 
• 
Erika Ankney, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Harrah, Okla., and Mallory Lockhart were also in double figures, tallying 15 and 13 points, respectively. Ankney dished out four assists, and Lockhart notched a steal
• OCU leads the NAIA in Free Throw Percentage (78.4%), and they rank second in Assist to Turnover Ratio (1.471), Field Goal Percentage (46.8%), and Assists per Game (19.294). Lockhart leads the NAIA in made 3-point field goals per game at 4.118 and total 3-pointers made with 70. To see how the Stars rank among the nation's statistical leaders, click here
• Oklahoma City stayed at second in the most recent NAIA Division I rankings, a single point behind top-ranked Master's (Calif.). The Stars reached the NAIA Tournament for the 22nd consecutive year and for the 25th time overall last season. OCU has captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017
• OCU was chosen tied for first in the SAC preseason coaches' poll. The Stars took their 19th SAC regular-season championship last season. OCU has won or shared nine of the last 10 league titles, going 229-22 (.912 winning percentage) within SAC play since 2007-08
• The Stars have never lost to the Evangels in 27 meetings
• OCU swept the 2018-19 season series, winning at home at Abe Lemons Arena 85-62 on Jan. 29, 2019 in a game that was postponed because of snow from its originally scheduled Jan. 3 date. The Stars completed the season sweep with a 76-58 win across town at MACU on Feb. 23
 
ABOUT THE EVANGELS
• The Evangels hung on late for a 93-84 home win over Southwestern Christian on Thursday night, surviving a 39-point fourth quarter from the Eagles. MACU has won three of their last four, and 10 of their 12 games since SAC play opened for MACU on Nov. 21
• Alexis Shannon led the Evangels against SCU with 26 points, and she had been outstanding again for MACU this season. She ranks second in the SAC, and fourth in the NAIA in scoring average (19.889), and she has five double-doubles
• Loralei Siliga added 19 points for MACU in their win over SCU, and she and Lexi Hernandez each average just shy of 12 points per game for MACU
 
MEET THE COACHES
Bo Overton (132-22, fifth season with OCU)
• Led Stars to a 33-5 season with a trip to the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament title game in 2018-19
• Overton has coached five all-Americans while at OCU, including Daniela Wallen, the 2017 NAIA Division I player of the year, and Daniela Galindo, the 2018 WBCA NAIA player of the year
• Overton served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national team in the 2012 Olympic games
• From 1998-2004, Overton served as an assistant for Oklahoma. The Sooners made five NCAA Tournament appearances during that time, with a 2002 NCAA runner-up finish and Final Four berth. He also earned three Big 12 regular-season titles and two conference tournament championships throughout his six years
 
Hannah Moeller (191-64, fourth season with Mid-America)
• Moeller has enjoyed a great deal of success in her head coaching career, having led MACU to two NCCAA National Titles and NCCAA tournament appearances in each of her three seasons on the MACU bench
• She has piloted MACU to at least 23 wins in each of her three seasons at the helm, setting program records for single-season victories in each of the three campaigns
• Was named NCCAA Division I National Coach of the Year after winning the National Championships in both 2018 and 2019
• Served as head coach, and prior to that associate head coach, ad Hillsdale Freewill Baptist from 2011-12 through 2015-16. She also served as an assistant at MACU in 2010-11.
• Played for Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla. from 2007-09, earning Daktronice NAIA Scholar-Athlete and RSU Female Student-Athlete of the Year honors in 2009
