Stars come off most lopsided victory of season

THE MATCHUP

• Oklahoma City University puts its undefeated record on the line against John Brown (Ark.) in a road Sooner Athletic Conference encounter
• The Stars have won 15 in a row to start the season for their finest start to a season since opening 2010-11 with 17 consecutive victories
 
ABOUT THE STARS
• OCU routed Bacone 95-36 on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (15-0, 7-0 SAC) posted season bests for points, field goals (37), margin of victory (59 points), blocked shots (eight) and points allowed
Abby Selzer, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Thomas, Okla., matched her career high with 26 points and her season high with seven rebounds. She previously scored 26 points on three occasions last season. Selzer collects 16.8 points and 4.9 rebounds a game to go with a 64.9 percent field-goal percentage
Mallory Lockhart, a 5-8 sophomore from Keller, Texas, generated 12 points while knocking down 4 of 10 3-point shots. Lockhart posts 16.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest with a 42.9 percent 3-point shooting percentage and 85.7 percent free-throw shooting clip
• OCU paces the NAIA in free-throw percentage (78.3 percent) and scoring margin (26.2 points per game). Lockhart leads the nation with 4.2 3-pointers made per game. To see how the Stars rate among NAIA Division I statistically, click here
• Oklahoma City stood at No. 2 in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. The Stars garnered four No. 1 votes and 215 points, but fell short of the top spot by one point to The Master's (Calif.). OCU holds the NAIA's longest streak of top-25 appearances with its 257th consecutive national ranking dating back to 1997-98. OCU has made 25 trips, including 22 consecutive appearances, to the NAIA Division I Tournament and captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017
• The Stars tied for first in the SAC preseason coaches poll. Oklahoma City took its 19th SAC regular-season championship last season. OCU has won or shared nine of the last 10 league titles, going 227-22 (.912 winning percentage) within SAC play since 2007-08
• OCU boasts of a 51-5 advantage in the all-time series. John Brown's last victory in the series came 66-62 on March 7, 2014 in the SAC Tournament in Shawnee, Okla. OCU has won 12 in a row against John Brown
• The Stars won in a romp 79-33 on Feb. 2, 2019 at Abe Lemons Arena in their last outing against John Brown. Selzer totaled 19 points, six rebounds and three steals
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
• Southwestern Christian prevailed over John Brown 75-59 on Thursday night in Bethany, Okla. The Golden Eagles (5-11, 1-6 SAC) suffered a loss to Southwestern Christian for the first time since Jan. 14, 2016, ending John Brown's seven-game winning streak in the series
• Tarrah Stephens, a 5-11 freshman, had 14 points, two blocked shots and two steals and shot 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. Stephens averages 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.56 blocks and 1.19 steals a game
• The Golden Eagles hit 9.44 3-pointers per game to rank fourth among NAIA Division I
• SAC coaches placed John Brown at fifth in their preseason conference poll

MEET THE COACHES
Bo Overton (130-22, fifth season with OCU)
• Led Stars to a 33-5 season with the SAC regular-season crown and an NAIA DI tournament championship trip in 2018-19
• Overton has coached four all-Americans while at OCU, including Daniela Wallen, the 2017 NAIA DI player of the year, and Daniela Galindo, the 2018 WBCA NAIA player of the year
• Overton served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national team in the 2012 Olympic games
• From 1998-2004, Overton served as an assistant for Oklahoma. The Sooners made five NCAA Tournament appearances during that time, with a 2002 NCAA runner-up finish and Final Four berth. He also earned three Big 12 regular-season titles and two conference tournament championships throughout his six years
• Overton collected his 150th career win coaching women's college basketball 85-70 over Southwestern Assemblies of God on Jan. 11 in Waxahachie, Texas. He has a 152-69 mark in seven years as a head women's basketball coach
 
Jeff Soderquist (349-357, 23rd season with John Brown)
• Soderquist is the winningest coach in program history, and has guided the Golden Eagles to five trips to the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament including a trip to the Fab Four in 2014
• In 2013-14, the women's basketball program pieced together 28 total victories and 15 wins in Sooner Athletic Conference play, both program records
• In 2011, Soderquist was named the SAC Coach of Character
