Stars hammer Bacone 106-66

OCU seizes most lopsided victory of 2019-20

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University crushed Bacone 106-66 on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Anthony Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, ignited OCU with 21 points. The Stars improved to 10-6 in men's basketball.
Oklahoma City produced a series of season bests in the offensive onslaught. The Stars topped 100 points for the first time this season. OCU generated season highs in margin of victory (40), field goals (44), 3-pointers (17), assists (29) and field-goal percentage (62 percent). OCU reached 100 points for the first time since its 101-84 NAIA Division I Championship Tournament win over Stillman (Ala.) on March 21, 2019 in Kansas City, Mo.
The Stars hit their first 10 shots from the field, including seven 3-pointers. Darrion Willies scored on a fastbreak layup to build a 27-13 lead at the 13:14 mark of the first period. OCU missed its first field-goal attempt with 12:40 to go in the first half.
OCU nailed five treys to begin the game and score the contest's first 15 points. Davis sank a 3 to put the Stars ahead 15-0 with 16:35 remaining in the first.
"We tell our players at halftime and before the game that you better come out with some intensity, or else a team like this will smack you in the mouth and be able to turn it against you," Oklahoma City coach Hank Aldous said. "Don't overlook anybody. I was proud of our guys for responding to the way we coached them and told them to go out here, play as hard as they could, move the ball and play OCU basketball."
Davis shot 8-for-9 from the floor and nailed all five of his 3-point tries in 20 minutes of play. Trae Bryant, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., furnished OCU with 18 points and seven assists while downing 7-for-8 from the field and 4 of 5 attempts from 3-point land.
A.J. Cockrell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., pitched in 12 points and six rebounds, while Elie Ghomsi, a sophomore from Bafoussam, Cameroon, collected 12 points and seven rebounds for the Stars.
Oklahoma City reeled off a 10-0 run to open the second half. Bryant scored to put the Stars up 60-35 with 17:05 left. OCU led from start to finish and built a 43-point lead late in the game.
The Stars return to Sooner Athletic Conference play by visiting John Brown (Ark.), ranked 10th in the NAIA, for a 3:45 p.m. tip-off Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
