Stars Look for 15th Straight Win to Open Season

THE MATCHUP
• Oklahoma City University will welcome the Bacone College Warriors to town for the first time since the Warriors left the Sooner Athletic Conference at the end of the 2018-19 campaign
• The Stars have equaled their 14-0 start from the  2011-12 season, and are now in pursuit of their 17-0 start from 2010-11
• Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students, and OCU students, faculty and staff get into all regular-season OCU home athletics events free with their ID
• When the Stars score 70 points, fans get a 2-for-1 combo coupon for Raising Cane's
 
ABOUT THE STARS
• The Stars completely flummoxed the offense of Southwestern Christian on Tuesday night in a 69-42 win over the Eagles. OCU held SCU to 14 made field goals, and only one player for the Lady Eagles made more than two shots in the game
• Abby Selzer, a 6-2 sophomore from Thomas, Okla., led the Stars with 16 points in the game on 6-for-10 shooting. Selzer ranks third in the NAIA in field goal percentage, converting on 64.2 percent of her shot attempts from the floor 
• Erika Ankney, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Harrah, Okla., broke into double figures for the fourth time on the season, tallying 11 points including the Stars' first made 3-point field goal which launched a 13-0 OCU run in the first quarter. Mallory Lockhart and Brennyn Seagler each added 10 points, Taylor Sylvester grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, and Shamika Smith handed out five assists
• OCU ranks second in the NAIA in Assists per game (19.571), Assist to Turnover Ratio (1.405), and Free Throw Percentage (78.6%). Lockhart leads the NAIA in made 3-point field goals per game at 4.214. To see how the Stars rank among the nation's statistical leaders, click here
• Oklahoma City stayed at second in the most recent NAIA Division I rankings, a single point behind top-ranked Master's (Calif.). The Stars reached the NAIA Tournament for the 22nd consecutive year and for the 25th time overall last season. OCU has captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017
• OCU was chosen tied for first in the SAC preseason coaches' poll. The Stars took their 19th SAC regular-season championship last season. OCU has won or shared nine of the last 10 league titles, going 226-22 (.911 winning percentage) within SAC play since 2007-08
• The Stars lead the all-time series 10-0
• OCU swept the 2018-19 season series, holding the Warriors below 30 points in each game
 
ABOUT THE WARRIORS
• The Warriors fell at home against Langston (Okla.) on Saturday, Jan. 9 100-71 Bacone is ins the midst of a seven game losing streak that dates back to Nov. 23
• Kamryn Gentry and Madison Slinkey average in double-figures for the Warriors. Gentry scored 10.8 points per game, while Slinkey adds 10.2 points per contest.
• Slinkey does rank in the top-5 in NAIA Division II in 3-point percentage, having made 48.9 percent of her long range tries this season
 
MEET THE COACHES
Bo Overton (129-22, fifth season with OCU)
• Led Stars to a 33-5 season with a trip to the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament title game in 2018-19
• Overton has coached five all-Americans while at OCU, including Daniela Wallen, the 2017 NAIA Division I player of the year, and Daniela Galindo, the 2018 WBCA NAIA player of the year
• Overton served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national team in the 2012 Olympic games
• From 1998-2004, Overton served as an assistant for Oklahoma. The Sooners made five NCAA Tournament appearances during that time, with a 2002 NCAA runner-up finish and Final Four berth. He also earned three Big 12 regular-season titles and two conference tournament championships throughout his six years
 
Juan Davis (2-26, first full season with Bacone)
• Davis took over as head coach of the women's basketball team at Bacone in mid-season in 2018-19, coaching his first game at Mid-America Christian on Jan. 10
• Earned his first collegiate head coaching victory on Feb. 25, 2019 at Ecclesia in a 69-64 win over the Royals
• Also served as the Warriors' Sports Information Director in 2018-19, and currently holds the position of Assistant Athletic Director
• Served as a men's basketball assistant coach for Bacone from 2008-11, and was on the coaching staff that took Bacone to it's first ever NAIA National Championship appearance as the tournament champions of the Red River Athletic Conference in 2010
