Stars stumble in NWCA Nationals Duals against Menlo

Ninth-ranked OCU wrestles eighth-ranked Providence at 8 a.m. CST Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 33-10 setback to Menlo (Calif.) in the NWCA National Duals on Friday at the Kentucky Expo Center.
The Stars, ranked ninth in NAIA women's wrestling, went to 1-1 in duals on the season. Oklahoma City faces eighth-ranked Providence (Mont.) at 8 a.m. CST (9 a.m. CST) Saturday in the NWCA National Duals.
The dual matched the top two team finishers in last year's NAIA Invitational. Fourth-ranked Menlo took the national title, while OCU finished runner-up.
Cierra Foster provided the Stars' highlight of the dual. Foster, a sophomore from Post Falls, Idaho, came up with the fall against Laynee Pasion in 5:03 in the 136-pound match. Foster, ranked third among the NAIA's 143-pounders, improved to 5-3 with her third pin of the season.
OCU's Nkechinyere Nwankwo posted a 10-0 technical fall against Sara Aguilar in a clash of the top two ranked 191-pounders in the NAIA. Nwankwo, a sophomore from Houston, moved her record to 6-1 with her third win by technical fall of 2019-20.
The winner of the OCU-Providence dual will have the opportunity to compete for fifth place in the NWCA National Duals.
Oklahoma City has won the NWCA National Duals five times in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
