Stars derail John Brown

OCU moves to 2-0 in SAC play

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University topped John Brown (Ark.) 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 on Friday night at Bill George Arena.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., collected 12 kills, eight digs and two aces for OCU. The Stars improved to 8-1, 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
OCU's Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, turned in nine kills, six digs and three aces, and Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, rang up 31 assists, 12 digs and two aces.
Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., tallied nine digs, while Catelyn Vargas, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, Texas, notched six kills and four digs for OCU. Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, knocked down six kills, and Caitlin Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., contributed seven digs and two aces.
The Stars rallied from a 21-18 first-set deficit with six points in a row. Bertling and Salak struck for kills to spark OCU. Bjelobrk's kill clinched the first set for the Stars.
OCU scored six of the last seven points of the second set as Bjelobrk served up back-to-back aces and Vargas nailed two kills.
Beeler fueled a 5-0 surge in the third set to put the Stars up 21-15. Beeler hammered a kill and scored an ace, while Cecilia Campos added a kill during the OCU run.
Oklahoma City returns to Abe Lemons Arena at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 against SAC foe USAO.
