Stars blister Langston

OCU coach needs one win to reach 100 victories

LANGSTON, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dispatched of Langston 25-7, 25-16, 25-12 on Tuesday night at C. Felton Gayles Field House.
Ella Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, pounded 11 kills to lead the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 13-1, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars' win put Kristen Coventon at 99 victories in her head-coaching career. Coventon's mark stands at 99-85 in her sixth year as a head coach. She is in her first year as Oklahoma City head coach. OCU hosts Central Christian (Kan.) at 7 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, provided Oklahoma City with 10 kills and five digs, and Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, turned in 39 assists, eight digs and two aces.
The Stars' Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., delivered 20 digs and two aces, while Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., picked up five kills, 11 digs and two aces. Caitlin Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., contributed 13 digs, and Catelyn Vargas, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, Texas, added seven kills.
OCU struck for 15 unanswered points in the first set. Lofton knocked down two kills, including one to put the Stars ahead 19-3, during the run. Vargas smacked two kills, and Harwell served up a pair of aces to key the Stars' onslaught.
Bjelobrk nailed a kill to give Oklahoma City a 21-10 advantage in the third set.
