Stars knock off Texas Wesleyan

Bjelobrk supplies OCU with her first double-double of 2019

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University snagged a 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Center.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, totaled 11 kills, 13 digs and three aces for OCU. The Stars, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, went to 12-1, 6-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with their 11th consecutive win.
Bjelobrk notched her first double-double of the year. Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, amassed 35 assists and seven digs, while Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., topped Oklahoma City with 16 digs.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., rang up eight kills, 10 digs, two blocks and two aces, and Ella Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, contributed eight kills and two blocks for the Stars. Kenady Bertling and Catelyn Vargas each added six kills and three blocks.
Salak and Vargas came together for a block to put OCU ahead 20-16 in the first set.
The Stars tallied the last four points of the second set. Bjelobrk posted a solo block, then Beeler served up an ace. Lofton nailed a kill, and Beeler followed with another ace.
OCU overcame a 17-12 third-set deficit with a 7-0 run. The Stars had back-to-back aces, then Lofton and Vargas teamed on a pair of blocks. Lofton hammered a kill to give OCU a 19-17 edge. Beeler smacked a kill to provide the Stars with match point, then combined with Bertling on a block to seal the outcome.
Oklahoma City takes on Langston at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Langston, Okla.
