OCU topples Southwestern Assemblies of God

24th-ranked Stars takes 10th consecutive win

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University prevailed over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-10 on Friday night at the Sheaffer Center.
The Stars' Marijana Bjelobrk posted a season-best 21 kills. Oklahoma City, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, moved to 11-1, 5-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU pushed its win streak to 10. Southwestern Assemblies of God pushed the Stars to four sets. OCU had won in three sets the past nine matches.
Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, added six digs, three blocks and a team-high three aces. Lacy Beeler tallied eight kills, 20 digs and two aces. Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., tied her career high for digs.
Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, registered a career-best 49 assists to go with 11 digs, two aces and two blocks, while Ella Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, supplied the Stars with 12 kills.
Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., tracked down 18 digs, and Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, knocked down 11 kills for OCU.
The Stars took the first set after Bjelobrk broke a 24-24 tie by crushing a kill, then combining with Bertling on a block. Beeler nailed a kill to put OCU ahead 24-20, but Southwestern Assemblies of God rallied to tie the set.
Bjelobrk put away the third set for OCU by smacking a pair of kills to close the set.
In the fourth set, Lofton sparked OCU to a 9-2 advantage with four kills. Beeler had an ace to spur the Stars to a 19-7 advantage. Lofton added two more kills to set up match point for OCU 24-10. Bjelobrk smoked a kill to secure the win.
Oklahoma City faces Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
