Stars dispatch of Mid-America Christian

OCU posts ninth consecutive win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University reeled off a 25-10, 25-17, 25-21 win over Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., topped the Stars with 10 kills and 14 digs. OCU, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, went to 10-1, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Beeler posted her sixth double-double of the year along with three blocks. Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., picked up 13 digs, while Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, racked up 29 assists, four digs and four kills for the Stars.
Marijana
Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, produced six kills, seven digs and two blocks, and Caitlin Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., contributed 11 digs and two aces for OCU. Catelyn Vargas, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, Texas, notched five kills and five blocks, while Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, smacked five kills.
The Stars built a 14-4 first-set advantage with seven points in a row. Vargas hammered a kill while teaming with Cecilia Campos and Salak on blocks to key the 7-0 OCU run.
OCU clinched the second set by scoring the last four points. Bertling and Salak recorded kills for the Stars.
Oklahoma City tallied five of the match's last six points to secure the win and overcome a 19-18 deficit. Bjelobrk nailed a kill, and Beeler sealed the outcome with a pair of kills.
The Stars square off with Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in Waxahachie, Texas.
