Stars go 4-0 in SAC-RRAC Crossover

OCU completes unbeaten weekend against Red River Athletic Conference squads

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the weekend with four volleyball wins in the Sooner Athletic Conference-Red River Athletic Conference Crossover on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars marched past Wiley (Texas) 27-25, 25-19, 25-17 after cruising to a 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 victory over the University of the Southwest (N.M.).
OCU knocked off Wiley in a rematch from the 2018 NAIA Championship Opening Round, where the Stars took down Wiley 25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 25-13 on Nov. 17 in Oklahoma City. The Stars took the win from Huston-Tillotson (Texas), which was tabbed the preseason favorite to win the Red River Athletic Conference, on Friday.
Against Wiley, OCU overcame 24-22 and 25-24 deficits in the first set. Catelyn Vargas smacked a kill to spark a set-clinching 3-0 run.
Vargas had two kills to spearhead OCU's 8-1 surge to close the second set.
Lacy Beeler totaled 16 kills and 11 digs, while Sophia Salak turned in 39 assists for OCU. Vargas collected nine kills and four blocks, and Isabel Harwell picked up 20 digs. Marijana Bjelobrk and Ella Lofton each had eight kills, and Caitlin Briggs recorded 17 digs.
Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., nabbed 11 kills and 10 digs, and Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, crushed 10 kills.

Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, handed out 30 assists, while Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., tracked down 14 digs. Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, put together eight kills and six digs.
The Stars meet Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 in Bethany, Okla., in OCU's conference opener.
