Stars cruise past Lindenwood-Belleville

Harwell matches OCU mark in loss to Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Oklahoma City University dispatched of Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 25-19, 25-6, 25-16 on Friday in the Evangel Preseason Classic at the Evangel Fieldhouse.
Evangel (Mo.) edged the Stars 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-9 on Friday morning. Oklahoma City went to 2-1 in volleyball.
Isabel Harwell equaled the OCU single-contest record for digs by notching 36. Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., matched the 36 Dani Chase posted against Midland (Neb.) on Sept. 1, 2017. Harwell produced OCU's 19th 30-dig performance in program history.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., put together 17 kills and eight digs, while Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, contributed 15 kills and seven digs.
Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, rang up 43 assists, 14 digs and three aces, while Ella Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, added seven kills for the Stars.
Evangel clinched the win by scoring the last four points of the match. Kristen Johnson had two kills to help Evangel to the win.
To force the fifth set, OCU reeled off five consecutive points to erase a 13-12 deficit. Salak sparked the Stars with a pair of aces. Bjelobrk and Beeler nailed kills for the Stars.
Against Lindenwood-Belleville, Salak accumulated 20 assists, seven digs and three aces. Beeler supplied OCU with nine kills and 11 digs, while Bjelobrk numbered seven kills and 15 digs.
Harwell picked up 16 digs, and Caitlin Briggs chipped in nine digs. Michelle Krenowicz, a senior from Frisco, Texas, served up four aces.
The Stars host the Sooner Athletic Conference-Red River Athletic Conference Crossover on Aug. 23-24 at Abe Lemons Arena.
