Williams of OCU becomes SAC newcomer of year

Davis from Stars takes third-team all-SAC accolade

OKLAHOMA CITY – Chris Williams topped four Oklahoma City University award recipients on the all-Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball team by seizing conference newcomer of the year.
Williams landed first-team all-SAC acclaim, while Anthony Davis from OCU collected a third-team all-league nod. Elijah Christman and Eric McCollum became honorable-mention all-SAC selections.
Williams, a senior guard out of Denver, made an immediate impact with the Stars as he stands second in the SAC in scoring with 19.4 points per game. He produces 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.48 steals a contest.
Williams rates fifth nationally and second in the league with an 86.5 percent free-throw percentage and fifth in the SAC with 2.48 3-pointers a game. Williams rang up 41 points against Southwestern Christian on Feb. 5 to match the finest individual scoring outburst in the league this season. He led Oklahoma City on a season-best six-game winning streak by accumulating 21.8 points a game. Williams boasts of two SAC player of the week awards.
Davis, a junior forward from Lewisville, Texas, supplies OCU with 10.7 points and 5.9 rebounds a contest. Davis scored a season-high 21 points vs. Mid-America Christian on Jan. 29 and hauled in a season-best 16 rebounds against Bacone on Dec. 15.
Christman, a senior forward from Justin, Texas, nails 48.3 percent of 3-point shots to rank seventh in the NAIA and tops in the SAC. Christman amasses 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He recorded 29 points and seven treys against Manhattan Christian (Kan.) on Nov. 2. Christman was SAC player of the week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
McCollum, a senior center from Newburgh, N.Y., chips in 7.3 points and 7.6 rebounds a game with 64.7 percent shooting from the field and six double-doubles. He is eighth in the NAIA with 3.3 offensive rebounds a contest. McCollum had 17 points against Northern New Mexico on Nov. 9 and 13 rebounds on a pair of occasions.
The SAC Tournament semifinals happen Friday at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City takes on Panhandle State at 6 p.m., while John Brown squares off with Mid-America Christian at 20 minutes following the first semifinal contest. See the tournament web page by clicking here.
