OCU falls 80-70 to Mid-America Christian

Stars enter conference tournament as No. 5 seed

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the regular season with an 80-70 setback to Mid-America Christian on Saturday at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Stars finished the regular season 18-10, 13-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Oklahoma City, ranked 18th in NAIA Division I, took the fifth seed in the SAC Tournament and will face Langston at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Langston, Okla., in the tournament quarterfinals.
The tournament shifts to Abe Lemons Arena on March 1-2 for the tournament semifinals and championship. The championship game tips off 4 p.m. Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Chris Williams, a senior from Denver, provided OCU with 21 points, hitting 7 of 14 shots from the field. Eric McCollum, a senior from Newburgh, N.Y., posted his team-high sixth double-double in 2018-19 with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Stars' Anthony Davis, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, picked up 10 points, while Mark Howell, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, dished out a team-best five assists to go with eight points.
Elijah Christman hit a free throw to give OCU its largest lead of the day of 26-20 midway through the first half. Mid-America Christian rallied to take a 36-34 edge on Anthony Black's trey, but Williams responded with a bucket to tie the game 36-36 entering halftime.
In the second half, Howell canned a 3 to tie the game 47-47 at the 15:01 mark. The Evangels tallied the next four points as Britt Hammons had a free throw to give Mid-America a 51-47 lead.
Dominick Ford's foul shot pushed Mid-America Christian's advantage into double digits 62-52 halfway through the second period.
