Panhandle State deals Stars 92-70 loss

OCU drops first contest since Jan. 26

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 92-70 setback to Panhandle State on Thursday night at the Anchor D Arena inside Oscar Williams Field House.
Panhandle State snapped the Stars' six-game winning streak. Oklahoma City, ranked 18th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, fell to 17-8, 12-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Joe Clarke, a senior from New Rochelle, N.Y., topped OCU with 15 points and four steals. Mark Howell, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, turned in 14 points while hitting all eight of his free-throw attempts.
Chris Williams, a senior from Denver, picked up 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Eric McCollum, a senior from Newburgh, N.Y., posted 12 points and eight rebounds and went 6-for-6 from the field for the Stars. Eric Wattree hauled in eight rebounds to tie for the team lead.
OCU mustered 35.4 percent shooting from the floor. The Stars were held to less than 40 percent shooting from the field for the fourth time this season. OCU gave up 90 points for the fifth time overall and the second time to Panhandle State this season.
Panhandle State broke a 16-16 tie with a 10-0 run nearly around midway through the first half. Khallid Edwards and Baris Ulker sank back-to-back 3-pointers as the Aggies took a 26-16 advantage with 9:25 to go in the first.
OCU faces ninth-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 4 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
