Stars crush Panhandle State

OCU takes 14th consecutive win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trampled Panhandle State 25-16, 25-23, 25-9 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lacy Beeler topped OCU with 14 kills. The Stars, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, moved to 15-1, 9-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City ran its winning streak to 14 matches. Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., posted nine digs and two aces. Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, dished out 44 assists and four digs to ring up 40 assists for the fifth time this year.
Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., scooped up 13 digs, while Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, notched eight kills and nine digs for the Stars. Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, and Ella Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, each knocked down eight kills.
Catelyn Vargas, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, Texas, supplied OCU with seven kills, four digs and two blocks, and Caitlin Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., contributed seven digs and two aces.
The Stars overcame a 23-22 deficit in the second set. Beeler crushed a kill to tie the set 23-23, then Bjelobrk smashed a kill to give OCU set point. Beeler pounded a kill to clinch the set for the Stars.
Lofton nailed three kills to key a 9-0 OCU splurge that built a 13-3 third-set advantage.
Oklahoma City faces Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
