Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

OCU falls to Oklahoma Baptist 71-64

Clayborne leads Stars with 12 points

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dropped a 71-64 decision to Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at the Noble Complex in a men's basketball exhibition.
Kealon Clayborne led the Stars, receiving votes in NAIA Division I, with 12 points to go along with two rebounds and two steals in the loss. Clayborne, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas, went 4-of-6 from the field and hit 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
"We had a couple of guys who were working really hard out there," OCU coach Stan Holt said. "They got hit with a couple elbows, a couple screens. They were going down and could not finish the game, and then we had some foul trouble, as well. We got deep into our bench but it was good for those guys to get some time. They had been working so hard in practice and deserved to get out there and play and I thought they gave us great minutes. OBU is a great team. They have a great unit and are really balanced, so it was a tough challenge."
OCU came out of the gates quickly, building a 10-3 lead early in the first half. The Bison battled back with a 9-0 run to nab their first advantage and led 28-25 at the break. Rashad Lewis led the Bison with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Oklahoma Baptist maintained the lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 13 points with 2:16 remaining. The Stars climbed within three after five straight points from Rashaun Coleman and a 3-pointer from P.J. Grooms at the 9:00 mark, but never managed to get closer.
Anthony Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, scored 11 points to go with a team-leading seven rebounds. Coleman, a junior from Houston, collected 10 points and four rebounds. Eddie Smith, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., produced 10 points and two rebounds.
Sophomore P.J. Grooms, of Birmingham, Ala., added eight points in the contest, while senior Eric Wattree, from Port Orchard, Wash., managed five points, a team-high four assists and two rebounds.
Oklahoma City will play its regular-season home opener 3 p.m. Saturday against Manhattan Christian (Kan.) at Abe Lemons Arena.
