OCU edges Northern New Mexico 77-75 in double overtime

Coleman sinks crucial 3-pointer for Stars

Box Score ESPANOLA, N.M. – Oklahoma City University slipped past Northern New Mexico 77-75 in double overtime Saturday night at the Eagle Memorial Sportsplex in the Ohkay Owingeh Classic.
Rashaun Coleman sank a 3-pointer to secure the victory for Oklahoma City. The Stars went to 2-0 in men's basketball this season.
Coleman, a junior from Houston, and Anthony Davis each supplied OCU with 18 points and four rebounds. Coleman shot 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, while Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, hit 3 of 5 shots from 3-point land.
Darrion Willies, a senior from Fontana, Calif., delivered 17 points and seven rebounds, and Kealon Clayborne chipped in 13 points for the Stars. Clayborne, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas, knocked in 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Willies gave the Stars a 74-73 edge with a basket late in double overtime. Naquwan Solomon answered with a pair of free throws to put Northern Mexico up 75-74.
Estevan Martinez's bucket forged a second overtime period.
In regulation, Eric Wattree made free throws to put OCU on top 54-49 with 2:34 to go. Tyrique Weaver hit a trey, then Alexander O'Guinn scored to tie the game 54-54 at the 1:42 mark.
OCU takes on Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. Thursday in Shawnee, Okla., in an exhibition.
