OCU tallies win over Texas Wesleyan

Stars try for sixth 25-win season Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University turned away Texas Wesleyan 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., topped the Stars with 10 kills. Oklahoma City, ranked 22nd in NAIA volleyball, went to 24-1, 14-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Beeler picked up 15 digs to reel in her 11th double-double of the year. Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, furnished OCU with nine kills, eight digs and three aces, while Cecilia Campos, a junior from Natal, Brazil, knocked down nine kills.
Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, accumulated 38 assists, three digs and two blocks, and Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., topped the Stars with 16 digs.
Catelyn Vargas, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, Texas, put together seven kills and four blocks, while Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, notched six kills and two blocks for Oklahoma City.
The Stars ran their win string to 23 matches. OCU has a 20-match winning streak in league play.
In the first set, Texas Wesleyan tied the set 20-20. Vargas put the Stars back in the lead by smacking a kill.
Oklahoma City erased a 3-0 second-set deficit by scoring the next seven points of the set. Bertling nailed a kill to spark the OCU run.
In the final set, the Stars dug out of a 19-17 hole with a 4-0 surge. Bjelobrk had a kill and an ace to spark OCU. Bjelobrk's ace put the Stars in front 20-19. Vargas tacked on a kill. Beeler gave OCU match point with a kill.
OCU meets Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
