Stars trample USAO

Many OCU players turn in career-best performances

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University trounced USAO 25-7, 25-15, 25-8 on Friday night at USAO Fieldhouse.
Cecilia Campos, a junior from Natal, Brazil, supplied OCU with a career-best 11 kills. The Stars, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 23-1, 13-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars' winning streak grew to 22. Oklahoma City owns a 19-match win streak in conference play. OCU piled up a season-high 16 aces.
Lacy Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., produced eight kills and nine digs for OCU. Kenady Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, tallied seven kills and two blocks, and Marijana Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, reeled in seven kills, seven digs, four blocks and two aces.
Sophia Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, racked up 18 assists and a career-high six aces, while Caitlin Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., tracked down a season-high 18 digs for the Stars.
Ali Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., handed out a career-best 13 assists, and Isabel Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., picked up eight digs and a career-high five aces. Olivia Nutter, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, turned in five kills and tied her season high with five blocks.
Bjelobrk and Nutter put Oklahoma City on top 12-2 in the first set by combining on a block.
Salak had an ace to give the Stars a 9-0 second-set advantage.
Hanna Nicholson nailed a kill to build a 12-3 lead in the third set.
OCU returns to action 7 p.m. Oct. 25 against Texas Wesleyan at Abe Lemons Arena in the Stars' Dig Pink Night.
