Stars go 4-0 in Grand View Tournament

OCU reaches 20 wins for sixth consecutive year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University finished with the most wins in the Grand View Tournament after a 25-12, 25-19, 24-26, 25-16 victory over Huntington (Ind.) on Saturday at Sisam Arena.
The Stars also defeated Saint Francis (Ind.) 25-17, 25-23, 27-25 on Saturday morning. Oklahoma City, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, went to 21-1 this year.
Oklahoma City became the only team in the Grand View Tournament to finish 4-0. The Stars notched the program's sixth consecutive 20-win season and 10th in the 14 years since OCU revived its program in 2006.
OCU has won its last 20 matches. In 2019, the Stars own the third best winning percentage (.955) and third highest win total among the NAIA.
Against Saint Francis, Lacy Beeler supplied the Stars with her 10th double-double of the year with 15 kills, 19 digs and two blocks. Ella Lofton posted a season-high 14 kills to go with five digs.
Marijana Bjelobrk contributed 11 kills, six digs and two blocks, while Sophia Salak amassed 46 assists and 13 digs for OCU. Isabel Harwell turned in 13 digs, and Kenady Bertling picked up five blocks. Caitlin Briggs led the Stars with two aces.
In the second set, OCU came up with the last three points. Bertling and Bjelobrk combined on a block, then Bertling and Lofton came together for another block. Lofton closed out the set with a kill.
In the match vs. Huntington, Lofton, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, tallied 13 kills and four blocks. Bjelobrk, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, numbered 10 kills, eight digs, four blocks and two aces.
Bertling, a sophomore from Baytown, Texas, piled up nine kills and five blocks, while Salak, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, boasted of 45 assists, seven digs and two aces for the Stars. Salak had her third outing in a row with 45 or more assists.
Harwell, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., scooped up 18 digs, and Beeler, a junior from Jenks, Okla., had eight kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Briggs, a junior from Mustang, Okla., added 11 digs and two aces.
OCU has dropped four sets during its current winning streak of 18.
The Stars get back to Sooner Athletic Conference play in a 7 p.m. contest Thursday at Mid-America Christian at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City.
