Stars torch Mid-America Christian 97-81

OCU sets single-game mark with 19 treys

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University buried Mid-America Christian under a second-half offensive barrage 97-81 on Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars rallied with 62 second-half points and a single-game school record 19 3-pointers. Oklahoma City improved to 12-7, 7-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Oklahoma City shot 18-for-24 from the field (75 percent) and 13-for-16 from beyond the 3-point arc (81.3 percent) in the second period. The Stars erased a seven-point first-half deficit. OCU surpassed the 18 treys it hit against John Brown (Ark.) in 2000.
OCU joined a group of five teams tied for the third-best mark of 7-6 in SAC play.
"It's all jumbled up," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "We've talked about winning every two weeks after we lost four straight. We said we need to have a winning record in those two weeks. We're focusing on that day and that night. We're looking at the smaller picture to get ourselves back in this."
Chris Williams, a senior from Denver, spearheaded the Stars with 23 points, five rebounds and eight assists while nailing 4 of 8 3-point shots. Williams posted 20 second-half points and a season high for assists.
OCU's Trae Bryant, a junior from Wilmington, N.C., produced 21 points while shooting 6-for-8 from the floor. Anthony Davis, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, picked up a season-best 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from field and a 5-for-6 performance from 3-point land for the Stars. Davis' five 3-pointers were his season high.
Eric Wattree, a junior from Port Orchard, Wash., collected 13 points and a season-high four assists and shot 4-for-7 from 3-point range for OCU. The Stars connected on 58 percent of their field-goal tries and a season-high 63.3 percent from beyond the arc, shooting 19-for-30 on 3-pointers.
Oklahoma City pulled away from a 57-57 tie with a 9-2 second-half run. Wattree ignited the surge by burying a 3. Williams nailed a pair of free throws, then canned a trey to cap the run for a 68-59 advantage midway through the second period.
Bryant's jumper in the lane gave OCU its largest lead of the night 91-74 with 2:40 to go.
The Stars meet Bacone at 8 p.m. Thursday in Muskogee, Okla.
