LANGSTON, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University men's basketball team dropped a nail-biter to No. 8 Langston 63-61 Saturday afternoon at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse.
Elijah Christman led all scorers with 16 points for the Stars. OCU, fell to 11-7, 6-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while Langston moved to 17-4, 9-4 in the SAC.
The Stars, led by as many as 10 in the second half, leading the first 29:11 of the game. Oklahoma City shot just 34.6 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 35-32.
"I thought we played a heck of a game defensively this game to hold them to 63 points is a pretty good night for our defense," Stars head coach Vinay Patel said. "Especially the first half we looked really good with some key stops. Offense was a struggle the entire night, that was what we talked about at halftime was cleaning up some things to get the ball moving. Langston's denial defense kind of bothered us a little bit. I didn't think we made some assisting plays to help us get some other guys shots. I have to give a lot of credit to their defense they did some stuff to really bother us that we haven't seen up to this point. They didn't guard some of our guys just backed off into the paint to help on our post and things like that. Langston did a good job guarding us and we did not do a good job at sticking to our plan."
Christman, a senior from Justin, Texas, went 3-for-4 from the floor all 3-pointers, sinking 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, two rebounds and two steals in the loss.
OCU committed 19 turnovers, 11 of which were in the first half.
Anthony Davis, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, delivered 11 points, eight rebounds, one steal and one assist.
LU was led by senior David Hunt II, who provided the Lions with 11 points, eight rebounds and an assist.
The Stars' next matchup will be 8 p.m. on Tuesday against Mid-America Christian at Abe Lemons Arena.
