OCU tops Panhandle State

Stars have won last five matches

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University notched a 25-22, 25-15, 25-19 win over Panhandle State on Saturday at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, fueled the Stars with 15 kills, two digs and two blocks. OCU went to 13-2, 9-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Lacy Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., supplied Oklahoma City with nine kills, while Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., produced 14 assists, seven kills and two aces.
Sophia Salak, a freshman from McKinney, Texas, posted 21 assists, two aces and two digs, and Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, reeled in 17 digs for OCU. Michelle Krenowicz, a junior from Frisco, Texas, equaled her career best with 11 digs.
The Stars overcame an 11-6 deficit and outscored Panhandle State 5-2 to close the first set. Krenowicz served up an ace to put OCU up 21-20. Bjelobrk tallied three kills and a block during the set-clinching run.
OCU scored the last five points of the second set. Horton recorded an ace, then Kenady Bertling crushed a kill to bring the Stars set point.
The Stars built a 19-15 third-set lead after Caitlin Bosarge
had an ace, then Beeler hammered a kill.  
Oklahoma City returns to the road in a 7 p.m. match Oct. 5 against John Brown (Ark.) in Siloam Springs, Ark.
