Stars take down Texas Wesleyan

OCU deals Texas Wesleyan its first setback in conference play of 2018

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University rallied past Texas Wesleyan 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center.
Lacy Beeler notched 16 kills, 16 digs and two blocks to spur the Stars. Oklahoma City improved to 9-2, 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., recorded her third consecutive double-double, hitting double figures in kills and digs the past three matches. The Stars handed Texas Wesleyan (8-5, 5-1 SAC) its first conference loss of the season.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, provided OCU with 13 kills, seven digs, three blocks and two aces, while Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., racked up a season-high 47 assists to go with 18 digs and five kills.
Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, topped the Stars defensively with 27 digs, and Isabel Harwell, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., scooped up 12 digs. Ella Lofton chipped in eight kills and nine digs.
In the second set, OCU separated itself with five consecutive points. Olivia Nutter, Horton and Bjelobrk pounded kills to spark the Stars. Beeler rejected an attack to give OCU set point, then nailed a kill to secure the set.
Oklahoma City came back from a 9-3 deficit in the third set. Beeler had kills to put the Stars ahead 22-20 and to clinch the set.
In the third set, OCU climbed back from 6-3 and 19-14 holes. The Stars wrapped up the outcome with a 7-1 closing run.
The Stars return to Abe Lemons Arena for a 7:30 p.m. league contest Tuesday against USAO.
