KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma City University downed Clarke (Iowa) 25-12, 27-25, 23-25, 25-17 on Friday in the Avila Classic at the Mabee Fieldhouse.
Oklahoma City also knocked off Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 16-25, 25-19, 25-17, 26-24. The Stars moved to 4-0 in volleyball this year.
Against Clarke, Lacy Beeler topped the Stars with 14 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Taylor Horton chipped in 21 assists, 19 digs and two blocks, while Marijana Bjelobrk added nine kills and six digs.
Lauren Hermes provided OCU with 15 digs and two aces. Kenady Bertling picked up seven kills, and Olivia Nutter had seven kills and two blocks.
Oklahoma City took command of the fourth set with four points in a row to go ahead 22-14. Beeler and Horton knocked down kills for the Stars.
The Stars overcame a 24-22 deficit to take the second set. Beeler, Bertling and Bjelobrk socked kills to rally OCU. Bjelobrk's kill gave the Stars set point at 25-24, then Bjelobrk put away the set by nailing a kill.
OCU built an 18-7 first-set advantage after an 8-0 run. Beeler and Nutter supplied kills, and Nutter teamed with Horton on a block during the Stars' surge.
Against Lindenwood-Belleville, Bjelobrk produced 17 kills and two blocks, while Beeler contributed 13 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces for the Stars. Horton posted 36 assists, eight digs, eight kills and two blocks, and Hermes scooped up 15 digs.
Oklahoma City faces Presentation (S.D.) at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. contest against Avila (Mo.) at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Avila Classic.
