OCU tops Panhandle State 101-90

Stars win seventh straight game

GOODWELL, Okla. – Ridell Camidge had 37 points, including seven 3-pointers and led Oklahoma City University to a 101-90 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday night at Oscar Williams Field House.
Camidge, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., finished 12 of 21 from the floor, dished five assists and notched his fourth game of the season with at least 25 points. The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, went to 18-5 on the season and 11-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference while Panhandle State fell to 11-11 overall and 4-10 in the SAC.
OCU found itself trailing by three points at halftime, but exploded on a 10-0 run to start the second half and take momentum away from the Aggies. Oklahoma City went on to outscore Panhandle State 53-39 in the second half and lock up its seventh consecutive victory. The Stars got 29 points from its bench on Thursday, led by Eric McCollum with 13.
Panhandle State went on a 7-0 run early in the first half to create a lead that eventually grew to double digits with 4:35 remaining. OCU later got back-to-back buckets from Mark Howell to end the half and shrink the Aggies' lead down to three at the break. The Stars struggled to control the glass, allowing their opponent to outrebound them 29-27 and get 12 second-chance points.
Oklahoma City made up for the slight rebounding differential with dominance on the defensive end. The Stars' pressure forced the Aggies into 18 turnovers which OCU turned into 24 points. Jonathan Ellis, a senior from Powder Springs, Ga., led the way with five of Oklahoma City's 13 steals.
Panhandle State cut the deficit to nine points at the 12:54 mark, but the Stars responded with a layup from McCollum and a dunk from Camidge on the next two possessions to rebuild their double-digit lead. A layup from Terence Bonhomme gave OCU a 15-point lead with around four and a half minutes to play and the Stars didn't look back from there.
Ivan Saicic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, pitched in 13 points and three rebounds. Bonhomme, a senior from St. Martinville, La., added nine points, five rebounds and five assists and Samuel Williams, a senior from Reno, Nev., gave the Stars nine points, two boards and a block.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 20 Wayland Baptist (Texas) in Plainview, Texas.
