Stars thump Mid-America Christian 83-69

OCU extends winning streak to six games

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to six games after rolling to an 83-69 victory over Mid-America Christian Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
Ridell Camidge, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., tallied a game-high 19 points, dished five assists and had two blocks for the Stars. OCU, ranked 15th in NAIA men's basketball, improved to 17-5 overall and 10-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Mid-America Christian dropped to 13-9 on the season and 7-7 in the SAC.
"It was a really good first half for us, I think it might've been the best we've played all year," OCU head coach Vinay Patel said. "We had a lot of energy, a lot of intensity and I thought we made some great plays defensively. In the second half I was disappointed on how we came out, and I think this team can be really good if we can put two complete halves together."
The Stars fell behind 14-7 five minutes into Saturday's contest, but responded with a 30-5 run over the next eight minutes fueled by a pair up tip-ins from Eric McCollum. Oklahoma City pounded the ball inside for 18 points in the paint in the first half, but also by found the open shooters and knocked down 63.6 percent of its shots from downtown. OCU led 47-26 at the break and got 20 points from its bench in the game's first 20 minutes.
Leading the Stars off the bench was Jonathan Ellis, a senior from Powder Springs, Ga. Ellis ended the game with 14 points and three assists. Also making a splash off the bench for OCU was McCollum, who recorded seven points and six boards.
Mid-America Christian fought its way back second half, cutting Oklahoma City's lead to single digits with 13:24 to play. The Stars answered with a quick 5-0 spurt after two free throws from Samuel Williams and a triple from Ellis. The Evangles again cut the lead to single digits a few minutes later, but again OCU had an answer.
The Stars turned a 67-60 lead into a 76-60 lead in the next two minutes to put the game away. OCU finished the game outscoring MACU 34-22 in the paint, 18-13 in points off turnovers and 9-2 in second-chance points.
Willams, a senior from Reno, Nev., added 17 points, four rebounds and two blocks for the Stars. Terence Bonhomme gave OCU nine points, seven assists and four rebounds and Ivan Saicic notched seven points, four steals and two blocks.
