Stars visits Central Christian for first time ever

ABOUT THE STARS
• Oklahoma City took a 73-66 setback to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday in Plainview, Texas. The Stars (20-5, 13-3 SAC) went to 3-3 this season against top 25-ranked competition
Daniela Galindo, a 5-foot-10 senior from Shattuck, Okla., turned in 22 points and four rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. Galindo provides OCU with 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.75 steals a contest with a 44.9 percent 3-point shooting clip
NaShyla Hammons, a 5-11 sophomore from Oklahoma City, registered a career-high 19 points while equaling her career best in blocks (three) and falling one rebound shy of her career high with 12. Hammons posts 7.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.54 steals a game
• Nationally, the Stars hit 77.8 percent of their free throws to rate third in the NAIA. Michaela Kay, a 5-8 junior from Spokane, Wash., nails 49.3 percent from 3-point range to rank second among the NAIA. To see how the Stars rate among NAIA Division I statistically, click here
• OCU holds the fourth spot in the most recent NAIA Division I top 25. Oklahoma City extended the NAIA's longest streak of top-25 appearances to 243 consecutive rankings dating back to 1997-98. OCU has made 23 trips to the NAIA Division I Tournament and captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017
• The Stars have been installed as the favorite to win the Sooner Athletic Conference in the preseason coaches poll. OCU took its 17th SAC regular-season championships and 11th SAC Tournament title in 2016-17. The Stars have won or shared seven of the past eight SAC regular-season titles with a 157-13 mark (.924 winning percentage) in league play during that span
• OCU crushed Central Christian 94-53 on Jan. 16 at Abe Lemons Arena. Galindo rang up 28 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals. OCU owns victories in both all-time meetings between the two teams
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
• Panhandle State cruised past Central Christian 80-55 on Saturday in Goodwell, Okla. Central Christian (1-23, 0-16 SAC) is in the midst of a 17-game losing streak dating to a 98-66 win over Barclay (Kan.) on Nov. 21 in Haviland, Kan.
• Abbie Banks, a 5-2 junior, had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. Banks averages 13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.04 steals a game
• Holly Golden, a 5-9 sophomore tops Central Christian with 14.7 points and 6.8 rebounds a contest
• The Tigers rank eighth with 15.88 offensive rebounds a game
• SAC coaches had Central Christian at 12th in the preseason league poll
 
MEET THE COACHES
Bo Overton (74-16, third season with OCU)
• Led Stars to 34-2 season, accruing 2017 NAIA Division I and Sooner Athletic Conference coach of the year awards
• Overton has coached three all-Americans while at OCU, including Wallen, the 2017 NAIA Division I player of the year
• Overton served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national team in the 2012 Olympics
• From 1998-2004, he served as assistant for Oklahoma. During that time, the Sooners made five NCAA Tournament trips with the 2002 NCAA runner-up finish and Final Four berth, three Big 12 regular-season titles and two conference tournament crowns
 
Marc Golden (first season with Central Christian)
• Guided Fort Myers Evangelical Christian (Fla.) to a 42-11 record and back-to-back district titles in three years
• Spent four years as an assistant at Baptist Bible (Mo.), his alma mater
• Coached two National Christian College Athletic Association all-Americans at Baptist Bible
