Stars establish Decker Family Endowed Scholarship

OCU to offer scholarship for student-athletes studying business

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has started the Decker Family Endowed Scholarship, which will provide scholarship funds for the Stars.
The endowment is made possible by a gift from the family of longtime OCU supporters Leroy Melvin Decker and Yvonne Decker Pruitt and their son, Rev. Martin Baird Decker. The scholarship will benefit OCU student-athletes majoring in business.
To make a gift to the endowment, contact Chris Maxon, OCU associate athletic director for development, at (405) 208-5431. Learn more about these and other endowments supporting OCU athletics at ocuchampionsclub.com.
"They were great fans of our athletic department," OCU athletic director Jim Abbott said of the Deckers. "They loved OCU and rooted for us with everything they had. Endowments are the key to our future. We're working to do everything we can do to secure the future for the Oklahoma City University athletic department."
Michael Decker, the son of the late Melvin and Yvonne Decker, called his mother the adopted mother of the women's basketball team.
"This is very significant for us," said Decker. "My mom and my dad went to the games all the time. My family's commitment to OCU goes way back. Everybody in my family went to college there."
Decker said that when his brother died, a portion of the life insurance payout went to OCU athletics.

"My brother was a proud OCU fan," Decker said. "This really all started with him. Way back in 1981, my family was at the forefront trying to support the athletic department. This is just another chapter in that."
