Stars recognize their own in Jim Wade Awards

OCU hosts Jim Wade Awards at 7 p.m. Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University hosts the 17th annual Jim Wade Awards, where the Stars will be lauded for their 2022-23 accomplishments, at 7 p.m. Friday inside the W. Angie Smith Chapel on campus.

Oklahoma City will recognize the overall Jim Wade Award winners, the Stars' student-athletes of the year.

The athletic department chose those considered the best representatives of OCU athletics both on and off the field of competition and best embody the ideals of the awards' namesake, the late Gen. Jim Wade. Each OCU team named its own Jim Wade Award winner to be considered for the overall awards. OCU's Noah Barks (baseball) and Kennedy Jackson (softball) became the 2021-22 Jim Wade Award winners.

The Stars will honor their latest induction class into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national student-athlete honor society.

Wade competed for OCU in baseball, basketball and football and became an OCU Athletic Hall of Famer and university trustee emeritus. Wade was a general in the U.S. Air Force who was decorated for service in the Korean War and had tours of duty in World War II and the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor of arts from the university in 1949. OCU's baseball field, office suites and soccer press box bear his name.
