OCU reaches SAC Tournament final

Stars knock off Southwestern Christian in SAC Tournament semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University surged past Southwestern Christian 25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21 on Friday evening in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament semifinals at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars face Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. for the SAC Tournament title. Oklahoma City (29-3) will look for its third consecutive conference tournament crown and fourth 30-win season in program history.
OCU and Texas Wesleyan have both clinched national-tournament berths. Oklahoma City wrapped up a spot in the NAIA Championships by taking its third SAC regular-season title in a row. Texas Wesleyan gains the league's tournament bid.
Marijana Bjelobrk produced her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills, 18 digs and three blocks for OCU. Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, notched her career high in digs, surpassing the 15 digs she collected vs. Southwestern Christian on Sept. 11 in Oklahoma City.
Lauren Hermes made her third entry into OCU's 30-dig club. Hermes equaled her career high of 33 digs she piled up Sept. 11 vs. Southwestern Christian. Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, also posted 30 digs vs. Texas Wesleyan on Oct. 20 at home. OCU now has 17 30-dig performances in its program history. Hermes served up three aces.
Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, turned in 10 kills and six digs, while Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., rang up 33 assists, 11 digs, five kills, two blocks and two aces.
Lacy Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., supplied the Stars with nine kills, 14 digs and two blocks, and Caitlin Bosarge, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., totaled seven digs and a season-high five aces. OCU's Olivia Nutter, a freshman from Plano, Texas, piled up a season-best eight blocks.
In the third set, Hermes had back-to-back aces to help give the Stars a 7-2 lead. Southwestern Christian scored five points in a row to close its deficit to 24-19 before Bjelobrk put away the set with a kill.
In the fourth set, Nutter teamed with Beeler then Bjelobrk on blocks to break a 19-19 tie. Hermes knocked down a kill to put the Stars at match point at 24-19. Lofton's kill sealed the outcome.
