OCU pounds Mid-America Christian

Stars collect fifth 25-win season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted its fifth 25-win season in program history with its 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Mid-America Christian on Saturday at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, turned in 13 kills and three blocks to propel the Stars. Oklahoma City improved to 25-3, 16-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
OCU has three 30-win seasons, collecting a program-record 34 in 2007. The Stars picked up 26 wins in 2006, when OCU revived volleyball.
Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, provided the Stars with 10 kills and two blocks, while Lacy Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., produced nine kills and two digs.
Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 29 assists and 11 digs, while Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, scooped up 10 digs for Oklahoma City. Olivia Nutter led the Stars with four blocks, and Caitlin Bosarge contributed six digs.
Beeler's kill put OCU ahead 20-9 in the first set.
Beeler knocked down two kills to rally the Stars in the second set. OCU overcame a 21-20 deficit.
Bjelobrk smacked three kills to put the Stars up 5-0 in the third set.
The Stars face Panhandle State at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Abe Lemons Arena.
