OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University toppled Texas Wesleyan 25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, knocked down a season-high 20 kills for OCU. Oklahoma City improved to 22-3, 13-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
The Stars remained unbeaten at home at 8-0 this year. OCU ran its home winning streak to 13 in a row while completing a season sweep of Texas Wesleyan.
Bjelobrk picked up nine digs. Bjelobrk notched her third career 20-kill performance and her first since nailing 21 kills against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Oct. 3, 2017 at Abe Lemons Arena. Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, delivered the 16th 30-dig performance in OCU history and her second of the year with 30 digs and six assists.
Lacy Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., posted her third consecutive double-double and 11th of the season with 15 kills, 11 digs and two aces, while Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., collected 43 assists, 16 digs and two kills for her sixth 40-assist contest of the year for the Stars.
Isabel Harwell, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., scooped up 17 digs, and Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, picked up eight kills and six digs for Oklahoma City.
OCU erased an 18-15 deficit to take the first set. Beeler and Bjelobrk sparked a Stars comeback with back-to-back kills. Bjelobrk added a pair of kills as the Stars closed out the set with a 7-1 run. Beeler contributed a kill and the set-clinching ace.
In the third set, the Stars reeled off a 7-0 surge to move ahead 19-8. Beeler nailed two kills, while Bjelobrk had a kill and teamed with Kenady Bertling on a block to key OCU's run.
Oklahoma City held off Texas Wesleyan in the fourth set. Lofton put down a kill to break a 17-17 tie. Bertling's kill gave OCU match point as the Stars tallied the final four points of the match.
The Stars squares off with Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas), ranked 23rd in the NAIA, at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
