Stars' win streak draws to close at Southwestern Christian

OCU drops match for first time since Sept. 14

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 21-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-10 setback to Southwestern Christian on Tuesday night at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
OCU took its first loss since Sept. 14. The Stars went to 21-3, 12-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Oklahoma City's winning streak reached 13 with its victory over Saint Francis (Ill.) on Saturday since falling to Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Waxahachie, Texas.
In the fifth set, Olivia Nutter gave OCU a 4-3 edge on a kill. Southwestern Christian tallied the next four points as Cashlyn Munroe had three kills and teamed with Caitlin McDougald on a block. Munroe nailed the kill to clinch the win.
In the third set, Damie Morgan's kill broke a 21-21 tie. Munroe added a kill to give Southwestern Christian set point 24-22.
In the first set, Marijana Bjelobrk threw down a kill to break a 21-21 tie. Lacy Beeler notched three service aces in a row to hand the set to the Stars.
Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, collected her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills, 10 digs and two blocks for OCU. Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., tallied 12 kills, 13 digs, five blocks and four aces for her 10th double-double of the year.
The Stars' Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., exceeded 40 assists for the fifth time this year as she rang up 43 assists, 13 digs and three blocks, while Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, scooped up 18 digs.
Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, recorded nine kills and two blocks, and Nutter, a freshman from Plano, Texas, pitched in five kills and a team-best seven blocks for Oklahoma City.
Kenady Bertling, a freshman from Baytown, Texas, added seven kills and four blocks.
OCU takes on Texas Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
