Stars thump Central Christian

OCU allows fewest points in set since Aug. 30, 2008

McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University blistered Central Christian (Kan.) 25-12, 25-4, 25-13 on Thursday evening at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, produced 11 kills and two blocks for the Stars. Oklahoma City went to 17-2, 12-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
The Stars held Central Christian to four points in the second set to allow the fewest points in a set since Aug. 30, 2008. St. Gregory's scored four points in the first set of a three-set loss to OCU in the Oklahoma City Classic at Abe Lemons Arena.
Kenady Bertling, a freshman from Baytown, Texas, pounded a season-best 10 kills to go with two blocks, while Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., collected 26 assists and seven digs for the Stars.
Caitlin Bosarge, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., delivered a season-high 19 digs, and Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, picked up 11 digs for OCU. Hanna Nicholson, a junior from Choctaw, Okla., supplied the Stars with seven kills, while Olivia Nutter, a freshman from Plano, Texas, added six kills and three blocks. Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, knocked down six kills, and Isabel Harwell, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., matched her season high with four aces for OCU.
In the second set, Oklahoma City rang up 20 consecutive points. Bjelobrk crushed four kills and teamed with Bertling on a block during the OCU splurge. Bjelobrk hammered a kill to cap the run and put OCU in front 20-1.

Lacy Beeler nailed a kill that put the Stars ahead 17-6 in the first set.
OCU plays in the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics Classic this weekend. The Stars meet St. Mary (Kan.) at 3 p.m., then St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Louis.
