Southwestern Assemblies of God deals OCU 91-81 loss

Stars' three-game win streak ends

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University suffered a 91-81 setback to Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Ridell Camidge, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., paced four Stars scoring in double figures with 15 points. Oklahoma City, ranked 14th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, fell to 9-3, 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Camidge downed 4 of 7 3-point shots to lead OCU. Ivan Saicic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, added 13 points, two blocked shots and two steals for the Stars.
OCU's Terence Bonhomme, a senior from St. Martinville, La., turned in 11 points, three 3-pointers and three assists. Eric McCollum, a junior from Newburgh, N.Y., posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in his home debut for the Stars.
Joshua Kashila knocked in a jumper to give Southwestern Assemblies of God a 70-47 lead with 12:39 left. OCU whittled away at the lead with a 7-0 run as William Robinson provided a putback and two free throws.
"We found five guys I felt like in the second half when we did make a run who really competed and shared the basketball," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "That's when we made a little bit of a run. We played Will Robinson, and he brought some energy to the floor. Eric McCollum, he's fighting through some nagging injuries, but he had 10 rebounds at halftime. That's what we knew he was capable of doing."
Southwestern Assemblies of God (8-5, 2-3 SAC) halted OCU's three-game winning streak. SAGU became OCU's first opponent this season to shoot 50 percent from the field at 53.4 percent and hit 50 percent from 3-point range.
The Lions built a 12-2 lead early using 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.
"They're going to decide as a basketball team what they want to be moving forward," Patel said of his team. "It can't be a case where I want it more as a coach than they do as players. There were times in this game where I felt like that. I'll take responsibility for it because I don't think I had this team prepared enough to match SAGU's intensity. They were the aggressor tonight. That's when they've been really good this year. When they're flying around and out-efforting teams, they can really play."
The Stars visit Texas Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
