SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University knocked off St. Gregory's 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 on Thursday night at Don Sumner Field House.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, totaled 13 kills and 11 digs for the Stars. OCU improved to 5-4, 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball with its fourth consecutive win.
Oklahoma City's Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., turned in 10 kills and four blocks, and Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, amassed 32 assists, 10 digs and three kills.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., posted five kills, 18 digs and three aces, while Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., racked up 18 digs, six assists and two aces for the Stars. Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., provided OCU with nine kills.
In the third set, OCU overcame 4-0 and 5-1 deficits to wrap up the victory. Randall smacked a kill that gave the Stars a 7-6 edge for their first lead of the set. Bjelobrk broke an 11-11 tie with a kill, then Nell followed with an ace. Beeler's kill put OCU ahead 14-11.
Vojnovic had a pair of kills and teamed with Randall on a block to put the Stars up 21-15. St. Gregory's reeled off a 6-0 run after Caitlin Chamness landed an ace to give OCU match point at 24-16. Bjelobrk knocked down a kill to secure the win for Oklahoma City.
The Stars continue league play against John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in Siloam Springs, Ark.
