Stars top Southwestern Christian

OCU scoops up win in 2017 home opener

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched a 25-15, 25-11, 25-18 victory over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars gave coach Jason Muñoz the win in his home debut and first league match guiding OCU. Oklahoma City improved to 4-4, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, spearheaded the Stars with 11 kills, nine digs and three blocks.
"It was great to play for our home crowd," Muñoz said. "I thought the girls did a good job of playing a well-balanced match."
Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, supplied Oklahoma City with 34 assists, eight digs and four kills, while Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., chipped in 23 digs and two aces.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., posted eight kills, 10 digs and two aces. Lacy Beeler smacked seven kills, and Jazmyn Boyd-Clark added seven kills and four blocks for the Stars.
Beeler crushed three kills to aid the Stars in building an 8-1 first-set lead. In the second set, Bjelobrk hammered three kills to lead OCU in putting together a 9-1 advantage. Chase landed two aces to key the Stars on the way to an 8-2 third-set lead.
OCU takes on St. Gregory's at 7 p.m. Thursday in Shawnee, Okla.
