Stars pound USAO

OCU rolls to its fourth consecutive win, 25th straight home victory

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University hammered USAO 25-17, 25-10, 25-7 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., provided the Stars with 11 kills and seven digs. OCU moved to 9-5, 6-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Oklahoma City produced 10 or more aces for the fourth consecutive match with 11 against USAO. Lindsey Grace and Sanja Vojnovic rang up three aces each. Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, entered the contest ranked among the top 15 in the NAIA individually in aces.
Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., scooped up 22 digs for her seventh 20-dig performance of the season. Chase entered the match 11th among the NAIA in digs average. Vojnovic accumulated 28 assists, four kills and three digs, while Marijana Bjelobrk knocked down nine kills for the Stars.
Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., pounded eight kills, and Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., nailed seven kills for OCU. Grace, a senior from Edmond, Okla., posted seven digs.
The Stars erased an 11-10 first-set deficit. Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, contributed a couple of kills, and Nell added an ace as OCU had five consecutive points to go up 22-15.
In the second set, Oklahoma City recorded nine points in a row to build an 11-3 advantage. Bjelobrk smacked a pair of kills, and Vojnovic landed two aces during that span.
Grace served up three aces, and Vojnovic added three kills as the Stars reeled off an 8-0 run to open the third set.
OCU faces Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena to complete the Stars' stretch of four consecutive home matches.
