OCU decimates Southwestern

Vojnovic spearheads Stars with 58 assists, 14 digs, six aces

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University held off Southwestern Oklahoma State 25-15, 25-27, 25-23, 25-18 on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, rang up 58 assists for her fifth career 50-assist performance for OCU. The Stars improved to 9-5 with their fifth consecutive victory.
Oklahoma City extended its home winning streak to 26. The Stars last lost at Abe Lemons Arena to Texas Wesleyan on Nov. 8, 2014. Oklahoma City served up 10 aces to hit double figures in aces for the fifth consecutive contest. OCU recorded 97 digs for its most since having 100 as a team at St. Gregory's on Oct. 7, 2014.
Vojnovic accumulated 14 digs and six aces. Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., collected 30 digs to reach that mark for the second time in her OCU career. Chase set the Stars' single-match record with 36 digs against Midland (Neb.) on Sept. 1. It was the 14th time an OCU player had a 30-dig performance.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., produced 22 kills, 19 digs and two blocks, and Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, posted 21 kills and three blocks for the Stars.
Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., added 14 kills and five digs, while Lindsey Grace, a senior from Edmond, Okla., picked up 14 digs. Michelle Krenowicz contributed 11 digs, and Jazmyn Boyd-Clark chipped in four kills and a team-best five blocks for OCU. Holly Randall supplied the Stars with four kills and three blocks.
The Stars clinched the match by scoring the contest's final seven points. Bjelobrk and Nell each recorded a pair of kills to key the OCU run. Vojnovic landed an ace to give the Stars match point, then wrapped up the victory with another ace.
In the third set, OCU reeled off a crucial 5-0 run to get to set point at 24-22. Bjelobrk knocked down a couple of kills, and Nell added a kill and a solo block.
Southwestern secured the second set when Kodee Avery had a kill, then teamed with Sofia Gruden on a block.
The Stars return to Sooner Athletic Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday at Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Waxahachie, Texas.
