Stars rout Central Christian

OCU downs Central Christian in first contest between two schools in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Central Christian (Kan.) 25-10, 25-6, 25-8 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., provided the Stars with 10 kills, six digs and two aces. Oklahoma City improved to 7-5, 4-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Central Christian fell in its first matchup with OCU in any sport as a member of the SAC. Central Christian became a part of the SAC for the 2017-18 season.
Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, added 28 assists, four aces and two kills, and Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., picked up 14 digs and four assists for OCU.
The Stars' Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., piled up nine kills and two blocks, while Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, posted nine kills and four digs.
OCU served up a season-best 12 aces. Caitlin Chamness, a senior from Littleton, Colo., chipped in two kills and two aces.
In the first set, Oklahoma City overcame a 6-2 deficit by reeling off a 7-0 run. Bjelobrk led OCU with two kills during the Stars' surge. OCU added an 8-0 splurge to go up 20-8. Nell knocked down a pair of kills during that run.
In the second frame, Chase landed a couple of aces to give the Stars a 12-2 advantage. Bjelobrk's ace put OCU ahead 15-3.
In the third set, Nell served up an ace, then Beeler hammered a kill to supply OCU with a 10-1 lead. Beeler three kills during the Stars' onslaught en route to securing the victory.
The Stars face Mid-America Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena. OCU will be collecting new or gently used shoes for Witness Kicks, which provides shoes to the needy.
