Stars look to capture ninth national title

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University attempts to win its ninth NAIA Division I women's basketball championship in a matchup with Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

ABOUT THE STARS: Oklahoma City clinched its 12th NAIA Tournament final appearance with an 87-78 win over Campbellsville (Ky.) on Monday at Rimrock Auto Arena. The Stars (33-2) won their 19th straight game and moved to 10-0 vs. ranked teams this season.
Daniela Wallen, a 5-foot-11 senior from Caracas, Venezuela, poured in 33 points while grabbing four rebounds, dishing out three assists and recording four steals. Wallen, the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the year and defensive player of the year, posts 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.83 steals a game in 2016-17 and 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.50 steals per contest during the tournament. She leads the NAIA in scoring, points (861) and steals (134) this season. Wallen averaged 21.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.00 steals a game in exhibitions against NCAA Tournament teams Oklahoma and Texas A&M in November.

Daniela Galindo, a 5-10 junior from Shattuck, Okla., delivered 30 points, six rebounds three assists and three steals. Galindo, the SAC newcomer of the year, scored at least 30 points for the second time this season. She averages 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.97 steals a game on the season with 23.0 points and 1.75 thefts per game during the tournament. Galindo tops the NAIA with her 48.1 percent 3-point shooting and 91.0 percent free-throw percentage. Brooke Irwin, a 6-3 junior from Mustang, Okla., had nine points, two rebounds and an assist. Irwin averages 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds a game this season and 11.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in the tournament.
The Stars lead the NAIA in free-throw percentage (77.9), field-goal percentage (51.6) and total assists (654) this season. To see where OCU ranks against the NAIA statistically, click here.
Oklahoma City took the fifth spot in the last top 25. OCU has made 211 consecutive appearances in the NAIA ratings since 1999-2000. The Stars reeled in their 20th consecutive NAIA Tournament bid and 23rd overall national-tournament berth. OCU has gone 70-14 in national-tournament play and surpassed Union (Tenn.) for the most NAIA Division I women's tournament victories with its 81-79 win Friday over Montana Western. Oklahoma City owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Oklahoma City faces off with Lewis-Clark State for the seventh time and the third year in a row in the national tournament. The Warriors bounced OCU from the tournament with a 67-52 win last season. Wallen provided Oklahoma City with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS: Lewis-Clark State ran past Vanguard (Calif.) 65-41 on Monday in the tournament semifinals. The Warriors held Vanguard to a 23.4 percent field-goal percentage in the game and went on a 19-5 run after falling behind 5-0 to start the contest.
Brooke Litalien, a 5-7 senior, boosted Lewis-Clark State with 13 points, three steals and four assists. Litalien supplies her team with 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds a game. Jossilyn Blackman, a 6-foot sophomore, produced a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Blackman averages 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Lewis-Clark tops the NAIA with a 1.67-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Bo Overton returns to OCU for his second season as its head coach. Overton has coaching experience on the professional level in China, Russia and the WNBA, as well as college head-coaching experience with Missouri-Kansas City. Overton has been an assistant on the international level for the Bahamas and China, including the 2012 Olympics with the Chinese team.
Brian Orr is the all-time winningest coach in Lewis-Clark State College women's basketball history. In his 16th season at the Warrior helm, Orr has amassed an overall win-loss record of 405-127. He has lead LCSC to six NAIA tournament titles and has earned four Frontier Conference Coach of the Year awards.
