Stars saddled with 75-58 loss to SAGU

No. 19 OCU goes to 3-3 vs. ranked foes in 2016-17

OKLAHOMA CITY – Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) dealt Oklahoma City University a 75-58 loss Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena in a matchup of ranked NAIA men's basketball squads.
Oklahoma City dropped into fourth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The 19th-ranked Stars went to 19-8, 10-7 in the SAC, while No. 21 Southwestern Assemblies of God moved to 21-8, 11-6 in SAC play.
Syrus McDonald, a senior from Flint, Mich., topped all scorers with 18 points to go with six rebounds and two assists, and Xavier Smith, a senior from Richardson, Texas, added 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots for the Stars.
OCU squares off with Mid-America Christian (15-14, 6-11 SAC) at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. The Stars will be looking to clinch an SAC Tournament quarterfinal home game, while defending national champion Mid-America will be playing to remain in the SAC Tournament field.
The Stars managed 37 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Southwestern Assemblies of God hit 43.9 percent overall and 48.4 percent in the second half from the floor.
Tyler Alderman sank a jumper that put OCU ahead 10-2 with 15:48 left in the first half. Lance Tipton fired in a trey to spark a 12-0 Southwestern Assemblies of God run to take the lead.
