OCU at Southwestern Christian women's basketball preview

Stars remain tied atop conference standings with Wayland Baptist

Oklahoma City University takes on nearby Sooner Athletic Conference foe Southwestern Christian.

ABOUT THE STARS: Oklahoma City cruised past Bacone 92-50 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (18-2, 9-1 SAC) hit 90 points for the seventh time this season.
Daniela Galindo, a 5-foot-10 junior from Shattuck, Okla., posted her season-high scoring output of 26 points to go with four assists, two blocked shots and four 3-pointers. Galindo provides OCU with 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.35 steals a game while leading the NAIA with a 93.1 percent free-throw percentage.
Daniela Wallen, a 5-11 senior from Caracas, Venezuela, supplied the Stars with 25 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Wallen generates 24.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.05 thefts a contest. She tops the NAIA in scoring and steals per game. Allison Frey, Janae Haag and NaShyla Hammons each had eight points. Hammons, a 5-11 freshman from Oklahoma City, averages 5.7 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.
The Stars lead the NAIA with a 50.3 percent field-goal percentage and 79.1 percent shooting from the foul line. To see where OCU ranks against the NAIA statistically, click here.
Oklahoma City remained at seventh in the newest rankings. OCU has made 208 consecutive appearances in the NAIA ratings since 1999-2000. OCU owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 and 2015. SAC coaches installed the Stars as the league's preseason favorite. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 16 times.
OCU has gone 8-0 vs. Southwestern Christian all-time. The Stars dismantled Southwestern Christian 81-51 on Jan. 12 at Abe Lemons Arena. Wallen notched 19 points and 11 rebounds.

ABOUT THE LADY EAGLES: Southwestern Christian downed Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 61-44 on Saturday in Bethany, Okla. Southwestern Christian (10-10, 2-8 SAC) limited SAGU to 28.3 percent shooting from the floor, 20 percent in the second half.
Andi McGill, a 5-6 junior, boosted Southwestern Christian with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. McGill tallies 9.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.20 steals a game. Maranda Janz, a 5-7 senior, had 14 points, four rebounds and four 3-pointers. Janz averages 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.55 steals per game.
Southwestern Christian holds opponents to 35.3 percent shooting from the floor to rank 13th in the NAIA. Southwestern Christian was expected to finish fourth in the SAC in the preseason.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Bo Overton returns to OCU for his second season as its head coach. Overton has coaching experience on the professional level in China, Russia and the WNBA, as well as college head-coaching experience with Missouri-Kansas City. Overton has been an assistant on the international level for the Bahamas and China, including the 2012 Olympics with the Chinese team.
Mark Arthur is in his second season as Southwestern Christian women's basketball coach. Arthur, also the school's athletic director, amassed a 404-329 record with four NCCAA championships and four ACCA championships as Southwestern Christian men's basketball coach from 1992-2012. The court at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium is named after Arthur, also a Southwestern Christian hall of famer.
