OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University wrapped up its second consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season volleyball championship with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday at Alexander Arena.
Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., provided the Stars with 12 kills and two blocks. Oklahoma City (20-6, 15-1 SAC) posted its fourth 20-win season in a row.
The Stars shared the SAC regular-season crown with Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas), who finished 25-5, 15-1 in league play. OCU dealt Southwestern Assemblies of God its only SAC loss of the year 25-23, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21 on Oct. 6 in Waxahachie, Texas.
"I'm happy for the team," OCU coach Jason Muñoz said. "They've worked hard for it. It's been a solid season, and now we are excited about postseason play."
The Stars secured the top seed in the SAC Tournament this week. OCU hosts a conference tournament quarterfinal 7 p.m. Tuesday. The SAC Tournament semifinals will be 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday with the championship 11 a.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City advanced to national-tournament play for the second year in a row and third time in program history by virtue of clinching the SAC regular-season crown. The NAIA Championship Opening Round takes place Nov. 18 at various campus sites throughout the country. An additional berth in the NAIA Championship Opening Round will be at stake in the SAC Tournament.
OCU's Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bijeljina, Bosnia, accumulated 26 assists, four aces and two digs in two sets of work, while Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., snagged 19 digs and two aces.
Jazmyn Boyd-Clark, a junior from Troutdale, Ore., tallied eight kills, three digs and two blocks, and Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., added seven kills and three digs for the Stars.
OCU overcame a 7-3 second-set deficit with a 9-1 run.
