OCU rolls past John Brown

Stars take on Texas Wesleyan for tournament title at 11 a.m. Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University reached the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament championship with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 semifinal victory over John Brown (Ark.) on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars (22-6) will look to capture the SAC Tournament title for the second year in a row. OCU meets Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Both teams are assured berths in the NAIA Championship Opening Round on Nov. 18. Oklahoma City notched its bid by winning the SAC regular-season crown, while Texas Wesleyan picked up the league's other berth by reaching the tournament final.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, collected 11 kills and three digs to power the Stars. Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., supplied OCU with nine kills and 18 digs, while Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bijeljina, Bosnia, accumulated 32 assists, three digs and two blocks.
Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., posted 18 digs, and Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., produced seven kills and six blocks for the Stars. Lindsey Grace, a senior from Edmond, Okla., contributed six digs.
OCU erased a 4-1 first-set deficit using a 7-0 run. Bjelobrk sparked the Stars surge with back-to-back kills, and Nell capped the run with an ace.
The Stars scored four consecutive points to overcome a 20-19 deficit in the second set.
In the third set, Oklahoma City turned around a 9-6 hole by reeling off a 7-0 onslaught. Randall picked up two blocks and a kill, and Nell smacked two kills.
