OCU smacks Texas Wesleyan

Stars vault to top of SAC standings

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University walloped Texas Wesleyan 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15 on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center.
The Stars finished the day sharing first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball standings alongside Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas). OCU (12-5, 8-1 SAC) owns the head-to-head tiebreaker after its victory over SAGU on Friday night.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, led Oklahoma City with 18 kills to go with seven digs and two blocks. The Stars collected their seventh consecutive win.
"The team was great today," OCU coach Jason Muñoz said. "We really played tough and had several people step up and contribute to this win. Going on the road and earning this win is a testament to the hard work the girls put in every day."
Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, notched her third 50-assist performance of the year and sixth of her OCU career with 53 assists, nine digs, six aces, four kills and three blocks. Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., hammered a career-best 17 kills to go with four blocks for the Stars.
Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., supplied OCU with 28 digs and two aces as she exceeded 25 digs for the fifth time this year and eighth time as a Star. Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., reeled in 11 kills and 10 digs, while Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., knocked down seven kills for Oklahoma City.
The Stars trailed for much of the first set before assuming a 22-19 lead with a 5-0 run. Beeler had two of her kills to key the surge.
OCU unleashed five consecutive points to go ahead 18-15 in the second set. Chase landed back-to-back aces to propel the Stars.
Randall and Vojnovic combined on a block to put the Stars on top 7-3 in the fourth set. Randall smacked three kills in a row to give OCU a 19-11 advantage.
OCU returns to Abe Lemons Arena for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
