Stars rout Manhattan Christian 106-81

OCU wins sixth consecutive season opener

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Manhattan Christian (Kan.) 106-81 on Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars reached 100 points for the fifth time under coach Vinay Patel. OCU, ranked 12th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, opened the season 1-0 for the sixth consecutive year.
Ridell Camidge, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., fueled Oklahoma City with 23 points, four rebounds and four 3-pointers. Samuel Williams, a senior from Reno, Nev., produced 20 points, 12 rebounds and two assists for the Stars.
OCU exploded for 66 points in the first half behind 63.4 percent shooting from the field.
"There's no question we have some firepower on offense," Patel said. "We have a long ways to go defensively, but it's improved. It's baby steps in that aspect because we have a lot of new players we're blending with returners. A lot of bright spots we saw, but we know in a hurry we got to get better because we have four games in six days going forward. We're trying to fix stuff on the fly, but I thought they did a pretty good job and brought a lot of energy, which is what I asked of them."
Walter Rickett, a senior from Dallas, provided OCU with 14 points and four rebounds off the bench, while Terence Bonhomme, a senior from St. Martinville, La., totaled 13 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Ivan Saicic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots to help OCU dominate the glass with a 56-35 rebounding advantage. The Stars owned wide advantages in second-chance points (24-10) and fast-break points (20-2).
Rickett's layup put OCU ahead 88-55 before the midway point of the second half for the Stars' largest lead of the day.
Oklahoma City meets Midwestern State (Texas) in an exhibition 7:30 p.m. Monday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
