Stars trample John Brown

OCU avenges only conference loss of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blistered John Brown (Ark.) 25-21, 25-14, 25-15 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, powered the Stars with 15 kills and three blocks. OCU improved to 18-6, 13-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Oklahoma City evened its season series with John Brown. The Golden Eagles (21-6, 10-3) dealt OCU its lone league loss of the season 25-27, 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-13 on Sept. 15 in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., produced 13 kills, 13 digs, two blocks and two aces, while Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, amassed 37 assists, seven digs, two aces, two kills and two blocks for Oklahoma City.
Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., picked up 22 digs and two aces, and Kenzie McMullen, a senior from Edmond, Okla., contributed nine digs for the Stars. Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., topped OCU with five blocks, while Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., added six kills, four digs and three blocks.
In the first set, John Brown took a 12-11 edge with five consecutive points. OCU answered with a 6-0 spurt. Bjelobork tied the set 12-12 with a kill and put OCU ahead 17-12 by teaming with Jazmyn Boyd-Clark on a block. Beeler and Clark combined for a block also.
In the second set, OCU reeled off a 7-0 run to go up 17-8. Bjelobrk knocked down two kills and helped Randall with a block during that surge. Randall added a solo block.
Nell clinched the victory by nailing a kill in the third set.
The Stars wrap up their regular-season home schedule with a 1 p.m. match vs. Bacone on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
